World Junior Championship
Canada took the gold with a 5 - 4 win over Russia and Slovakia won against Sweden 4 - 2 to take the bronze medal. Top performers include 3 Canadian players tied for a leading 11 points, Sam Reinhart (Buffalo), Nic Petan (Winnepeg), and Connor McDavid (2015 Draft Eligible). Other players who had a good showing were Max Domi (Arizona), William Nylander(Toronto), and Dylan Larking(Detriot). As for goalies Zachary Fucale(Montreal) had a great showing posting a 1.2 GAA and .939 SVS% in 5 games, and Igor Shestyorkin(New York Rangers) was not far behind posting a 1.98 GAA and .938 SVS%.

Trades
Nashville sends Derek Roy to Edmonton for Mark Arcobello
Right before the new year Edmonton stuck a deal with Nashville to get center Derek Roy, in Nashville he had 1 goal and 9 assists in 26 games, since getting to Edmonton he has a goal and an assist in 4 games. Going the other way in the trade was center Mark Arcobello, who had seven goals and 5 assists in 36 games, since arriving in Nashville he has 1 goal in 2 appearances.
WINNER: Edmonton got a center which they needed BADLY, but I feel Nashville won with Arcobello because he is five years younger and is and RFA next year so will probably stay in Nashville as for Roy, he is probably only in Edmonton till the end of this season.
Edmonton send David Perron to Pittsburgh for a 1st in 2015 and Rob Klinkhammer
Edmonton struck another deal sending 26 year old David Perron, who has 5 goals and 14 assists in 38 games to the Penguins and already has 1 goal in his only appearance with them . As for Edmonton they received a first rounder which was a surprise after last years trade deadline where we saw very few first round picks traded, besides the pick they acquired forward Rob Klinkhammer, who is 28 and has 4 goals and 2 assists in 29 games this season split between Arizona and Pittsburgh.
WINNER: Edmonton is no doubt in a rebuild and this move just shows that they are playing for the future, but same as the last trade Edmonton did not come out on top. The Penguins won by adding a great shooter and once put with Crosby he will make great strides (similarly to Patrick Hornqvist), and will most likely reach 30 goals this season, plus he is under contract for next season.
Coaching Carousel
Four coaches have been fired this season, started on December 8th with Paul MacLean getting the boot from Ottawa then their Canadian counterpart, Edmonton, followed way with the firing of Dallas Eakins, next was Pete Deboer getting fired by the Devils. The most recent was on January 6th with Randy Carlyle getting let go from Toronto. None of the firings come as much of a surprise, the only questionable move would be the release of Randy Carlyle with the Leafs still in playoff contention. Out of these four coaches Paul MacLean will most likely get a job somewhere in the NHL, due to his coaching abilities and the failure in Ottawa was not only his fault, since he was not given that many good players to work with.
